My Plans Or God's Plans?

Saul was afraid when he saw the Philistine army, in 1 Samuel 28, so he prayed that God would give him a vision.  When he heard nothing from God, he went to a witch, who connected Saul with Samuel’s spirit.  Samuel’s spirit asked Saul, “Why do you want to consult with me now? Is it because you are unable to connect with God?”

We look at Saul’s story and just shrug our shoulders.  Relying on his own strength, he had been ignoring God’s plan all along.  But now that things were looking bad, he sought out God’s plan!  We want to say, “Saul!  You had your chance!  But now it’s too late!”

But the reality is that we do this all the time in our own lives.  We want to rely on our own strength until we can’t possibly do it anymore.  Wouldn’t it be much simpler to just let go right now?  Wouldn’t it make more sense to call on God before our lives become a mess?  Where are you on this journey?  Are you open to God’s direction in your own life?

Lord, will you take over this life that you created?  Will you show me your path that I should be walking?  I trust your ways.  Amen.
